Bright Ideas

Bright Ideas is Kingston University’s annual entrepreneurial competition, open to all students across the university. It is a major initiative designed to encourage students to develop key innovation and enterprise skills. It encourages students to be problem solvers and confident presenters, addressing problems that come from their academic and everyday experiences. During the Bright Ideas Sprints, 153 students were coached on developing value propositions and pitching. At the Bright Ideas Final in February 2022, 130 students pitched their ideas to panels of distinguished judges, with 48 students coming from Science, Engineering and Computing and therefore qualifying for Engineers in Business prizes.  EIB Awards are made in two Engineering Groups – Engineering 1 and Engineering 2.

Engineering 2 Winner : Formular

Project:

Sahib Singh, who is in the third-year of his Engineering Degree Apprenticeship,  was awarded the first prize in Engineering 2 category for his innovation, Formular.

Formular is a fully adjustable, modular, and reusable proprietary formwork that moulds to contoured profiles, and makes concrete pours on undulating ground a breeze.

The Smarter Safety team (not pictured) won the runner-up prize of £250 in Engineering 2 category.  The team came up with a  brand-new wearable which will monitor a worker’s condition and environment to maintain their safety and wellbeing whilst working.

Engineering 1 Runners-Up: Planetfall

Project:

Featured is Aerospace Engineer, Victor Freiherr von Suesskind from the Planetfall team, which was awarded a £250 Engineers in Business Prize.  Planetfall is a novel kinetic strike system which is intended to reduce collateral damage by air strikes.

The first prize of £1,000 was awarded to the Ecoxhaust team (not pictured) whose Bright Idea was a filtration system to remove particulate matter pollutants from the greatest emitter, domestic combustion, to improve air quality for everyone.
