WE Innovate

WE Innovate is Imperial’s flagship female entrepreneurship education programme designed to support the next generation of women entrepreneurs to accelerate their startups. The six-month programme supports female students in developing an early-stage business idea, to advance their leadership and entrepreneurial skills. One of the key goals of this competition is to increase the number of female engineers setting up their own ventures. The WE Innovate team works closely with the Faculty of Engineering to promote the programme directly to engineers.

Winner: Team Repair

Project:

The Team Repair team,  Anais Engelmann and Megan Hale,  MEng Design Engineers were presented with their £3,000 Engineers in Business Prize by SMF Jayshan Ratnakumar, Co-Founder @Stance.  Team Repair also consisted of three other team members, Oscar Jones, Oliver Colebourne, Patrick McGuckian (not Pictured) – £3,000 Engineers in Business Prize.  

Team Repair is a subscription-based STEM learning programme, sending strategically broken electronic gadgets to 8–12-year-olds to fix every month.

Team Repair is a monthly subscription-based STEM learning kit that sends 8–12-year-olds a new broken electronic gadget to fix along with the necessary tools and an accompanying app to guide them through the activity. The 12-month programme will teach them critical STEM knowledge and fixing skills through topics such as batteries and motors, while they get to take apart and repair actual products. When finished, they return the gadget to Team Repair for reuse but keep the tools to make the repair again.

Positive feedback

Women entrepreneurs need resources, funding and support to excel in their innovation. Engineers in Business is an essential award to help teams with engineering backgrounds break boundaries and scale their innovation. Imperial Enterprise Lab is, once again, pleased to be working with the Engineers in Business Fellowship to support engineering students, graduates, and postgraduates in their participation in entrepreneurship.
