Ulster University’s competition allows engineering students to showcase their thesis research endeavours, with prizes handed out after assessment from academic staff as well the public and student body. In addition to Engineering in Business sponsorship, the competition is also supported by the Royal Academy of Engineering and Women in STEM.
The Engineers in Business Prize Fund (EIBF) brings considerable value to our competition by fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among our students. EIBF provides us with significant flexibility to allow us to define two distinct categories within our competition, which are judged by academic staff, students, and event attendees. By involving a broader range of stakeholders in the evaluation process, including those who visit the event and view the posters, we not only increase the number of prizes awarded to students but also enhance their motivation to participate in the competition.
EIBF’s support enables us to create an environment that encourages students to explore innovative ideas and solutions. By engaging in real-world problem-solving and entrepreneurial activities, students gain invaluable experience in translating their academic knowledge into practical applications. This hands-on experience not only strengthens their technical skills but also nurtures their ability to identify market opportunities and develop commercially viable solutions.
